Develop Your Note Taking Skills
Taking notes during an interview does not come naturally. It takes practice to record what has been said during the interview while continuing to focus on what the candidate is saying and maintaining eye contact. Brian Clegg in Instant Interviewing (London: Kogan Page, 2001 ISBN 0-7494-3388-4) suggests developing and practicing note-taking skills during business conversations or meetings. Maintain a focus on what is happening and avoid looking at your paper while taking notes. Practice will enable you to take accurate, readable notes that will be invaluable when comparing candidates and deciding who to hire.
Note taking is one of several topics explored during Nelson Scott’s Interview Right to Hire Right seminar.
